When the shaft rotates, a unique code pattern is produced. In a Rotary “Absolute” measurement type encoder, a slotted disc on a shaft is used in conjunction with a stationary pickup device. To discuss the difference between absolute and incremental measurements, we will use the Rotary Encoder type as an example.
